Centered almost practically in the heart of Hasselt, Reballion is a newly opened eatery which features balls. Meatballs. All sorts of meatballs. (Yeah, keep those thoughts to yourself.) Founded by Maarten Broekx, Reballion is a self service concept that sells different kinds of meatballs, using recipes with well known flavours. Such as the classic Italian meatball, there are other balls with a unique take, such as the Bangkok, which is a chicken meatball infused with ginger, lemongrass, and coconut milk to really accentuate the Thai flavours we’ve come to know and love.
The meatball dish I ordered was called Marrakech, a Moroccan flavoured lamb meatball. Along with it, I had a side of rice because it only makes sense but there was a couscous side which would make even more sense! Oh well, it was delicious either way. There are other sides as well like the salad and even quinoa for those of you who are vegetarian/vegan. Oh! And there’s a meatball specifically for vegetarians as well. So, it’s not really a meatball but more of a…veg…ball?
Other than the savoury meatballs, desserts also come in the concept of balls as well. I haven’t tried any of it though, so I can’t say much about it but looking at the menu, it looked appetizing (or dessertizing?). I’m definitely trying those next time!
Anyway, it’s a simple yet amazing concept for the fact that there’s so many recipes of meatballs that can be used and created, so the options are basically endless if you think about it. So if you’re Belgian or living in Belgium and you’re nearby, Reballion is a great place to bring your family and friends if you’re up for something different but close to home. The ambiance of the place is calm and contemporarily modern with awesome infograms on the walls. Plus, the owner is super nice. What more do you want?
